WROTE THIS LITTLE GEM DURING THE WONDERFULLY WEIRD WORLD OF THE 2008 ELECTION:This is something that I wrote in response to the several negative comments left by those few idiots that have no common sense or decency with respects to what Senator Obama has done by giving his speech on race and religion in America...enjoy:
I am a white middle-aged disabled American veteran from the first Gulf War...the one in which everything was done properly and successfully...and I cannot believe some of the ignorance and uninspiring stereotypical rhetoric being issued by those who claim to "really know" what Sen. Obama is all about (sources people...need to know where you're getting your vague and gossip-fueled inaccuracies before stating them as misspelled errors of ignorance and fear).
Whether or not you'll vote for Sen. Obama...the speech he delivered yesterday was a brave and honest attempt at opening a healing dialog between us all. Not only was the speech an important moment in Sen. Obama's candidacy for President (revealing his ability to remain open and honest with respect to his own personal viewpoints...unlike the last 7 years of secrecy and deceit), but it was also a significant moment for all Americans in whom the feelings of disunity and distrust have become permanently affixed within our collective political psyches.
Like it or not, we live in a country that allows the freedom of people like Rev. Wright, John Hagee, the Pope, Pat Robertson, Louis Farrakhan, and Billy Graham to practice their spiritual faith without fear of censure or laws against. However, all of the above mentioned individuals have made past comments concerning other individuals, faiths, or organizations that could be construed as controversial and un-American, and yet we still allow them to preach. Who are we to regulate that which is spoken within the pulpit…is this not a freedom that our country allows as a basic necessity to our very existence?
Likewise, we are all uniquely individual entities with broad varying life experiences. God has given us the ability to discern for ourselves what will be important or unimportant within our lives. Just as Sen. Obama is capable of gleaning from the teachings of his former pastor those values that best represent him as a spiritual human being, so too is he competent in negating any idea or concept that does not speak to or support his own viewpoints about America.
It's easy to play arm-chair quarterback and second-guess or condemn the man, because it's so much easier to hide behind an ignorant and blind comment that clearly demonstrates the continual divisions and categories that all of us have become accustomed.
Furthermore, all this talk about his inability to demean and denounce his former pastor is ridiculous and hypocritical. Rev. Wright's sermons, taken out of context and thrown about like a some intentional indoctrination of unpatriotic values within Sen. Obama's own self, do not comprise nor represent the entirety of Rev. Wright's 20 years of work as pastor for his community.
Sen. Obama's speech addressed this when he commented about his former pastor's sermons in which Sen. Obama took offense to...he rejected them outright as views he himself did not hold or support. However, to simply reduce Rev. Wright's entire spiritual life to a mere fraction of what it truly represents to both Sen. Obama and the black community is a denial of all that is good about the man and his 20 years of service to his community and church.
If you're still unable to recognize the truth behind these concepts, if you're still hung-up on the absurdity of distrusting this man and his vision of a united and openly honest Presidency that restores the power of the people to their government...then you're simply incapable of opening up your fear-based paranoia to the very powerful concept of real CHANGE.
For these people are condemned to remain steadfast in their incurable inconsistencies and dwindling ranks...America is at a cross-roads, we can either embrace true change and a new openness with respects to our past wrongs, or we can perish within the self-loathing, self-deprecating, and divisive remnants of a broken and biased political system that does nothing to help us, but only continues to divide us.
